DCRRC will be supporting a new location for water stops at the Rock and Roll Marathon on March 9, near last year’s position (the course has been changed from last year). We will be at stops 9/13 on Randle Circle at the Ft. DuPont Park entrance. This is an out-and-back portion of the course, with the two stops across the street from one another; the first at about 16.9 miles, the other at 22.1 miles. There would be about 2500 marathon-only runners at this point. Our job is to set up the outbound stop with water and gels, walk across the street and set up the inbound stop, which needs just water. Then we would move back and forth depending upon demand.
The stops are about a half mile east of the Douglass bridge. We need to start setting up by 6:45 AM, with runners expected around 8:20 AM. We’d be done by 11:30 AM or so. Parking is available on the side of the roads near the Circle. Volunteers will get parking passes to identify their cars. If driving isn’t an option, it’s also possible to use Metro and be there in time to hand out drinks, but note that Metro doesn’t open until at 7:00 AM on Saturdays. The Metro stops in Anacostia and the Navy Yard are the closest.
